You can now listen to the studio version of "The Afterman"!

    By Rolling Stone:

A decade after Coheed and Cambria released their debut album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, frontman Claudio Sanchez continues the band's epic sci-fi story with The Afterman: Ascension, the first part of a two-album tale that furthers the group's Amory Wars comic book storyline. Title track "The Afterman" features Sanchez's commanding falsetto and the band's intricately layered instrumentation. However, despite the grandiose scale of Amory Wars, Sanchez found inspiration for the double album on a much more personal level: the death of his wife's close friend.

"She found out about it through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news," Sanchez tells Rolling Stone. "Later that night, I sat down and just started writing a song. It became the album's title track, from the point of view of her experience. Everything else followed from there."

The Afterman: Ascension will be released on October 9th. The second volume, The Afterman: Descension, is set for February 2013 release.

I like it. It's definitely got a different vibe going on. Makes me even more excited for the new album.
I don't want to see it all come crashing down, down in the ocean
    Altering the course
    Untangle this weight
    And send off the posions

Very beautiful and atmospheric. Love it. Nice calm down after Domino's intensity.

I love this song dearly. I feel like it gives you that electronic side of coheed with all the synths and strings going on in the background while still groovin and riffing all the way. It also contains some of the most heartfelt and sincere lyrics from Claud, almost akin to "Wake Up". I'm hooked I really cant stop listening to it. The ending is sooo badass.

    Lyrics:

    She gave her heart
    To a falling star
When news filtered through of this tragedy
    All the walls went out

    Around the world she declines
As the tears from her eyes fall
No one understands and no one will
    All she has lost

If hes not here than where?

    When she found it there
    In the cold blue glare
    The words distressed and unfamiliar
    With the feeling seared

    And emptiness had hold
And in her chest she clenched
Reality settled as the memories raced
While on the screen he left

    She teared
"Your selfishess has robbed you of the man you could have been
    I wouldn't change a thing about you
I love you dearly, my friend"

If he's not here than where?
If he's not here than where?
    My love

Funny you mention Wake Up, I think this is the closest thing to Wake Up they've done since it GA came out.

It's a good soft ambient follow up to Domino on the album. It makes perfect sense. So emotional and atmospheric. It's simple for a reason.

I really like it. I think it could be a lot more powerful if the later lyrics "broke through" through more clearly through the vocal masking though. Best example I can think of would be Time Consumer where the whole first verse is mellow and all of a sudden the vocals break through with "DEBATE TO UNDERSTAND!" that kind of thing.

I love the song. Feels like laying in the best bed ever and just look at the stars. While my ears shrink...and my brain are flying to another dimensions.
Just get this good feeling :]

Am I the only one who sees a mini movie playing out while this song runs?

Like, flashing between Sirius leaving for the keywork and celebrating his going away on a voyage of discovery, and his wife whos desperatly worried for him and doesn't like the fact that hes going.

Or its kind of a "meanwhile, on earth" song - running parallel to Sirius getting possessed by Domino, this is his wife being sad that hes been gone for so long and theres been no news, even though she constantly hopes to hear something ("searching for my Afterman")

Depending on who Evagria is I wonder if that song might end up being a companion piece to this one, in the same way that WW3 was an extention of Apollo I.

In as much as, I don't know if Evagria is his wife or not, if she is there might be flashbacks to this song, if she isn't then who knows lol.

His wife is Mary, so Evagria will be someone similar to Domino that we know nothing about.

I think the first time he mentioned Sirius' wife's name was in the Inside the Concept: Afterman

Wake Up is amazing, so is Pearl Of The Stars. I'm glad they included a softer track akin to these two songs.

I watched the two live versions and fell in love. I personally think that this is one o the most creative songs they've put out in a while, like it's a new direction for them. I just really think that it's cool sounding and I love it. Only thing is i listened to the studio version and I feel like sometimes, especially at the end, you couldn't hear the guitars. I missed that awesome lick part at the end that you can hear in the live version. maybe it's just cause it's a stream from the internet or something?
